From PJ Lifestyle: The South’s Church Culture and Its Dangerous Problems

In a now-famous quote, Flannery O’Connor once said, “I think it is safe to say that while the South is hardly Christ-centered, it is most certainly Christ-haunted.” She may have been more right that she realized, because the dominant Southern Christian culture concerns itself largely with seeing and being seen, with church attendance as an end to the spiritual journey rather than a beginning, and with safely sheltering families from an increasingly messy world.

From The Macho Sophisticate: Stand Up Like A Man

A few nights ago, I had the privilege of watching one of my all-time favorite films, On The Waterfront. The classic, which celebrates its 60th anniversary later this year, stars Marlon Brando as Terry Malloy, a dockworker in Hoboken, NJ, who finally stands up to the corruption in the union.

Watching it for a second time reminded me of the many reasons why I love the movie – the powerful script, the passionate acting, the Christian symbolism – it’s a near perfect picture.

A PJ Lifestyle Classic: 5 Underrated Walt Disney World Attractions You Shouldn’t Skip

First-time guests — and even a few seasoned guests — often miss out on off-the-beaten-path attractions and little underrated gems throughout Walt Disney World. Sometimes these experiences go unnoticed because they’re older and don’t take advantage of flashy new technology. Others wind up being “best kept secrets” for guests who stay on property. A PJ Lifestyle Classic: The 10 Things You Must Do at Disney World

Growing up in a family that’s nutty for Disney, Walt Disney World has always been our favorite vacation destination. My parents honeymooned there and they first took me as an infant. By my count, I’ve been to Walt Disney World 25 times, though others in my family think I may have been more times. Since my nieces were born, we’ve tried to make our pilgrimages at least once a year.

From PJ Lifestyle: 5 Attractions I Wish Were Still At Walt Disney World

As someone who has traveled to Walt Disney World more times than I can count, I’ve seen attractions come and go.

The Disney Dining site (a terrific site fill of great tips and fun list posts) recently produced their list of ten Walt Disney World attractions they wish were still around. While I agree with the spirit of their list, I didn’t agree with the placement of some of the attractions on the list, so I gave in to the temptation to create my own list.

From PJ Lifestyle: Debunking The Disney Disinformation

Meryl Streep has proven once and for all that she should stick to acting and stay away from speechifying.

This week at the awards for the National Board of Review, the organizers tapped Streep to give an award to Emma Thompson for her portrayal of P. L. Travers in the delightful Saving Mr. Banks. Instead of merely lauding Thompson for her masterful performance, Streep chose to aim daggers at the memory of Walt Disney, whom Tom Hanks portrayed in the film. Streep managed to trot out all the old saws of disinformation against Disney.

From PJ Lifestyle: College Football: We Just Do It Better Down South!

It's Great To Be A Georgia Bulldog!

August is finally winding down. The kids are back to school, and the whole world seems to settle back into a routine. Starting this week – and especially on Saturday, the world changes for the better, as teams on campuses across the country take the fields to play football.

Yes, it’s college football season, and college football, like food, music, and beautiful women, is one of the things we just do better down South. The Southeastern Conference (SEC) has dominated the sport for years now, and for that reason, the entire country is in a love-hate relationship with the conference.
