My Guest Post at The New Normal: Fortress

Several times during my childhood and teenage years, we vacationed in St. Augustine, Florida (in between Disney World trips, of course). One of my favorite spots around St. Augustine was the Castillo de San Marcos National Monument. The fortress was built in 1672, and its purpose was to defend the coast of Florida against bands of pirates. The Spanish outfitted the fort with what was then the latest and greatest in weaponry and technology. The idea was not only to be able to fire on the pirates but also to keep the people of St. Augustine safe.
