8 Intriguing Potential Republican Presidential Candidates For 2012
Is it too early to start talking about the 2012 presidential race? With this November’s election close at hand, it’s hard to look two years into the future. But as soon as the dust settles, you can guarantee that politicians on both sides of the aisle will be looking at the next presidential contest.
There are plenty of people who would argue that the upcoming presidential election is among the most crucial in history. Barring the unthinkable (an Obama primary defeat or the president choosing not to seek a second term), 2012 will pit the eventual Republican nominee against arguably the most progressive president in history, and most everyone on the Right is looking for someone to undo much ofthe damage the Obama administration has done.
When looking at the 2012 Republican presidential field, the usual suspects emerge quickly: Sarah Palin, Mike Huckabee, Newt Gingrich, and Mitt Romney. There’s another level of names, such as Ron Paul and Tim Pawlenty, who have been mentioned often as well. However, there are quite a few names being bandied about that aren’t exactly first on the mind of many, and many of them have their own passionate following. Some of the potential candidates on the Right aren’t exactly household names, but the sheer number of people who have expressed interest or hinted at running or have followers who want them to run show that the 2012 election is, in the words of one insider, “the most wide-open-nomination process in the history of the modern GOP.”
