Today on Facebook, Michelle Rabitsch asked about when one knows one is closer to God. I answered, and then I took it as a challenge to think of ways I grow closer to Him. Here goes…
I know I’m growing closer to God when I have the peace that can only be called the “peace that passes all understanding.”
I grow closer to God when I worship. I’m encouraged on Sundays when I stand in the booth and see a room full of people engaged in worship.
I grow closer to God when I hear a child sing His praises or recite scripture or some kind of truth.
I know I’m growing closer to God when I read a passage of scripture that I’ve read numerous times before and find a new facet of truth in it.
I know I’m growing closer to God when everything that’s worldly and fallible in me should worry, but I can’t bring myself to.
I grow closer to God when I serve, give, or share.
I grow closer to God when someone shares with me what He is doing in his or her life.
I know I’m growing closer to God when the varied, incredible beauty of His creation leads me to praise Him.
I grow closer to God when I can see the lesson in the adversity.
I know I’m growing closer to God when I’m not content with where I am, when I feel that desire to do and be more.
